People close to us seem to think there’s something amazing or inspiring about what we’re doing. I don’t question the veracity of their feelings. However, I can tell you that there’s nothing that we’re doing that’s remarkable. We’re living our lives together. We’re doing things that range from the banal to the fulfilling. We’re struggling with money. We’re planning vacations. We’re dissatisfied with our jobs. We’re having conversations with each other about all these things.

But what does any of this have to do with anyone else? Nothing. There’s nothing to see in our relationship that you haven’t already seen in your own. I don’t have any magic spells to give you. I don’t have any secrets of success. I don’t have any tips to avoid failure. All I have is one man’s experiences, one man’s joys and disappointments. One man’s frustrations and regrets. Nothing more.

The more I try to write, the less and less I have to say to any of you.
